- iPhone: Settings → General → About → look for an EID, or Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (or Download a SIM instead).
Two things a model alone can't tell you
- Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. A phone locked to the carrier you bought it from can't use a third-party eSIM. If you're unsure, ask that carrier to unlock it; it's usually free once the phone is paid off.
- Where you bought it can matter. A few regional variants differ from the global model, most notably iPhones bought in mainland China, which ship with dual physical SIMs and no eSIM.
eSIM phone compatibility questions
Do all iPhones support eSIM?
Every iPhone from the iPhone XS, XR and SE (2020) onward supports eSIM. The main exception is models bought in mainland China, which ship with two physical SIM slots and no eSIM.
Which Samsung and Pixel phones support eSIM?
Galaxy S20 and newer, the Z Fold and Z Flip range, and Pixel 4 and newer all support eSIM. Older or regional variants differ, so dial *#06# to be sure: if an EID is listed, you're set.
Can I make my phone eSIM compatible if it isn't already?
No. eSIM relies on a chip built into the phone at manufacture, so it can't be added later. If your phone shows no EID, you'll need a device that ships with eSIM hardware.
Does my phone need to be unlocked to use a travel eSIM?
